Mud Buddy Motors

First, I would like to say I understand owning a boat or anything for that matter comes with the potential of having to get something fixed from time to time. I purchased my boat in march 2022. I deployed at the beginning of 2023. My boat had been in storage until I got back. When I got back I started the boat up and realized it was stuck in drive. No one had used it while I was gone. I contact Mud Buddy and described to them my situation. I informed them I knew my warranty had expired and was just looking for some help. After speaking with Keith or Kenny can not remember his name. He informed me that I should turn it in and have the dealer file it under warranty and that mud buddy will cover the cost due to it being a reoccurring problem with my year of motor. I was not expecting that however, I turned the boat in and informed the dealer what they said and they filed it under warranty. However, a month and half later mud buddy said they would not cover it. That is what I am upset about! You shouldn’t tell someone to turn something in and file under warranty and then not cover it. I could have saved myself $600 in labor by doing it myself. But I went off their word that it would be covered! Never again will I purchase or recommend a Mud buddy to anyone after they lied to me.

Just upgraded from MB 25 EFI HDR (Kohler) to the MB 40 EFI HDR a week ago, and completed the break-in in period yesterday. FIrst impressions are very positive: - the three stock blade works nearly perfectly in the phragmites and pencil reeds in St Clair flats area with minimal binding, and easy clearing via elevated prop; - the motor starts flawlessly on the first crank, idle settles in to sub 1,000 almost immediately; - and the power is impressive, I don't have any way to measure it, but you'd better hand on when accelerating aggressively. With a lightly loaded 17.5 fiberglass boat (Carstens Chesapeake) I get 25 mph at 3,500 rpm, and am on plane at 18-20 mph with sub 3,000 rpm. I will begin load testing tomorrow with gear and passengers in the next days and weeks.

I bought an Excel boat with a Timber King HDR 5000 Mud Buddy motor on it. The clutch failed. After contacting Mud Buddy, Enrique Lobado looked at pics of the clutch and covered the manufacturer defect. Email and phone communication was great. Enrique's videos (youtube) on motor repair are excellent! I fixed it myself after Mud Buddy sent me a new clutch/transmission assembly. So refreshing to have a company stand behind their product, and offer EXCELLENT customer service.

We purchased a Mud Buddy 5000HDR on an Excel F86 earlier this year but hadn't had a chance to really use it until waterfowl season opened last week. It was amazingly capable beyond our expectations. We did have a problem with the electronic shifter control wire breaking and we thought we were going to be stranded in the middle of nowhere. We called for emergency support and were lucky enough to connect with Enrique Lobato. He knew the motor like the back of his hand and walked us through the very simple fix. He stayed on the line with us until we confirmed all was working again. His customer service will likely sell two more of these Excel boats with Mud Buddy motors to my hunting buddies.

Had my HDR5000 since 2019 without issue. Today we had a freak malfunction. I called mud buddy and spoke to Enrique and he was extremely helpful. I haven’t gotten customer service like that anywhere else. I appreciate the help! It’s good to know a company still cares. It’s middle of duck season and I’m sure they are busy, Thank you.
